Mangalore: Dressing up for Weddings, Parties, Festivals and special
occasions is perhaps more difficult than going out and getting dress
itself. It is even more difficult when a woman has to accessorize her
dress with --- Rings, Necklaces, Bangles and other stuffs.
A tedious job in earlier years, Mangalore's women lately, have found an
easy way out. Brothers Tabrez and Fayaz in fancy articles business,
having mixing and matching bangles to suit the fastidious tastes of
women here.
Fayaz, who set up the Fancy shop 13 years ago, began dealing in glass
bangles and necklace to give his shop an exclusive touch. He is quite
well known in women's circles. "A few years ago, business wasn't good.
But with the people watching TV more, they have caught onto the fashion
and my business has improved," says Fayaz. The brothers, who hail from
Uppala in Kasaragod, Kerala, get the bangles from Suhag Nagri
Firozabhad in Uttar Pradesh, where bangles, kadas, and other items
are manufactured.
So what do they do when a woman approaches them with a fancy sari? " We
have all types of bangles, with stones of various shades. We mix and
match them according to the color and other details on the sari,"
explains Fayaz. "Not all customers happy, some walk out after a glance
at the price tag and some don't like our mix and match pattern. If the
customers are not happy, we seeks their suggestions and try to use that
pattern. We meet all types of people. But generally we are happy with
response," admits Fayaz'z modestly. A customer who accessorized her
sari with the bangles, recently compliments the brothers for their keen
sense of color. "They leave you pleased with their patterns" she says,
adding the cost was not the prohibitive. The glass bangles cost
anywhere between Rs.5 and Rs.40 each and the cost depends upon how many
one wants on the hand. "There is costlier stuff too. But the women
mostly go in for mid-range bangles, as they do not use them often. But
there are a few who go for the expensive stuff." decalares Fayaz,
adding that "satisfied ladies" do come back again and their
"word-of-mouth" publicity has helped them get more customers.
